At our last meeting of the Central Florida Watercolor Society, Tim Wilmot did a wonderful demonstration of how to take a very complicated photo and turn it into a simple, lovely painting. I painted along and my painting is to the right of the photo reference.

May Plein Air - at Leu Gardens

The Central Florida Watercolor Society plein air painters enjoyed the beautiful landscapes and planting areas at Harry P. Leu Gardens. We sketched for hours. It was our last outing for the season, but we look forward to fall and new artistic adventures!

Her palette colors are Aureolin yellow, Permanent Rose and Cobalt Blue for the first triad. Quinachridone Gold, Permanent Alizarin Crimson and Ultramarine Blue for the second triad.

The preliminary sketch is in pencil. Warm colors bring elements forward and cool colors push back. Neutral shadows, hard and soft edges are added. Finally the feathers are brought out with grey shadow.

She started with a warm up exercise of Iris and Roses. Playing with the paint and changing values as you go, add movement to your colors. The brushes she uses are KingArt. She likes their spring.
